Seixo design system

Context

This is a concept project based on a original one
we designed a few years ago for an e-learning platform, and which we wanted to redesign for portfolio purpose. The scope of the project encompasses several digital products across multiple platforms and thousands of users with different abilities and backgrounds.

What to do

For this project we needed to create a design system to solve scalability problems, so that the growing family of digital products could be seamless, consistent and easy to use, while following the same design principles and visual language.

To deliver the design system in a comprehensive manner we decided to create a website to guide and assist future design teams. A secondary aim was to create a backoffice dashboard as a first product using the new principles and components.

In the discovery, we interviewed and observed users – students, educators and school personnel – in action, to understand which components would be more relevant as well as shaping the system’s structure, look and feel.

Once the discovery phase was finished, our next priority was to define the design principles that would guide our process, using them as a thread to connect the atomic objects. Most of the components were then wireframed, prototyped and tested with users. This process was repeated several times in order to refine the designs.
